He was born on January 12, 1938 and died on February 16, 2017. Throughout his life he focused on the History, Criticism and Theory of Art, particularly the psychology of art. Since 1973 she began to work as a university professor and, since 1976, she joined the collegiate body of the Institute of Aesthetic Research, UNAM. Throughout her career she earned several distinctions and awards. She was head of Fine Arts between 1981 and 1987 and general director of the Museum of Modern Art, INBAL, between 1990 and 2001. In 1984 she obtained the scholarship-distinction from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, for her book project Freud's aesthetic ideas, a work that has been reprinted repeatedly. In 2004 she obtained the Rockefeller Scholarship for a stay in Bellagio, Italy. In 2003 she was awarded the Luis Cardoza y Aragón National Prize for Art Criticism and in 2008 she was awarded the Gold Medal of Fine Arts. She also obtained the distinction of Notable Academic from the Metropolitan Autonomous University. For more than 30 years she was a columnist with a regular weekly space in the newspaper The Journey and was a consultant for several museums and specialized magazines. She is the sole author of more than 16 books and co-author of dozens of works in addition to having published important articles.
